"As the only native palm, the loulu is found on most of the main islands. Its leaves are plaited into hats and fans. The leaves were also used as an umbrella, giving us another Hawaiian term for parasol! On Huelo Islet on the north side of Moloka’i, a distinct variety of loulu palms grow. It’s one of my favorite sites as we traverse between the islands!"
