Guide to the Coconut Coast

JOIN US ON A TRIP TO THE COCONUT COAST ON KAUAʻI

Meet the Coco Palms that started it all!

Our Coco Palms print is what put us on the map five years ago, and today remains our #1 seller.

You may be familiar with our Coco Palms Collection, but did you know Heather's hometown on Kauaʻi inspired it? Growing up on the Eastside of Kauaʻi, also known as the 'Coconut Coast' due to the area's beautiful coconut groves, coco palms became synonymous with home. Heather wanted to create a bag that reminded her of where she grew up and had Rachael design the Coco Palms print as a love letter to Kauaʻi. Heather never leaves home without her Coco Palms.

Heather's Coconut Coast Travel Guide

Welcome to the Eastside! These are Heather's fave places to eat, play, sip, sleep, and shop in her hometown. Be sure to print this out for your next trip to Kauaʻi!

EAT + DRINK

These are some of Heather's must-eats when visiting the Eastside of Kauaʻi. For those of you that don't know, Heather is ALOHA Collection's resident foodie, so TRUST.

Hukilau Lanai
Located in Kauaʻi Coast Resort at the Beachboy
520 Aleka Loop, Kapaʻa, HI 96746
Open Tuesday - Sunday
Although it's not "oceanfront dining," in our opinion, they serve the best food on the island! The menu features Kauaʻi grown products, think 'farm to table,' but Hawaiian-style. Our picks are the Okinawan sweet potato ravioli, poke nachos, lobster bisque, Wally's salad, Hukilau mixed grill, and the warm chocolate cake!

Pono Market
4-1300 Kuhio Hwy, Kapaʻa, HI 96746
Open Tuesday - Sunday
Stop here on the way out to the North Shore for your more traditional "plate lunch."

Duke's Kauaʻi
3610 Rice St, Lihue, HI 96766
Open daily
We love Duke's! It's an ALOHA team tradition to grab a sundowner cocktail on the day we land. There are beautiful views of Kalapaki beach from the entire restaurant.
"ALOHA Hour" is 3-5 daily!

Kauaʻi Juice Co.
4-1384 Kuhio Hwy, Kapaʻa, HI 96746
Open daily
Cold-pressed, glass-bottled, locally-sourced

Java Kai
4-1384 Kuhio Hwy, Kapaʻa, HI 96746
Open daily
This is Heather’s daily stop when she’s visiting home. We recommend the blueberry scone and lilikoi cheesecake if you’re looking for a little sugar with your coffee. Pro tip: if you’re in a rush, head to Kai Bar in the back of Java Kai!

PLAY

The Eastside of Kauaʻi is FILLED with fun things to see and do. Here are Heather's top adventure-approved recommendations!

Kalapaki Beach
Sun, swim, surf, kayak. Spend a whole day here doing whatever you want! This beach is SUPER mellow and protected by a break wall, perfect for families and picnics!

Hokuala Golf Course
3351 Hoʻolauleʻa Way, Lihue, HI 96766
Open daily
This gorgeous course is where Heather and her husband, Nick got married! Hokuala is the premiere golf resort on Kauaʻi, and considered the best on the island! Reserve a tee time online through their site.

Kamalani Playground / Lydgate Park
Traveling with Keiki?! This spot is tons of fun. You'll find a full-on adventure playground, picnic tables, restrooms, shade, and drinking fountains.

Ke Ala Hele Makalae Bike Path
“The Path that Goes by the Coast” great for walking, running, or biking. This 8 mile, cliffside path is flat with gorgeous views of the coast. There are several bike rentals nearby, including Coconut Coasters Beach Bike Rental and Hele On Kauaʻi Bike Rentals.

Keahua Arboretum aka Loop Road
*Pro Tip: Do NOT go here if it is cloudy or raining.*
Off Hwy 56 is the historic Coco Palms Resort, make a left here (Kuamoo Road). Drive past Kauaʻi Monastery to Loop Road (about 7 miles from Coco Palms Resort.) Park at the bridge and jump into the swimming hole with the rope swing! Before the bridge, on the right, you will see a sign that says, “Kuilau Trail,” this hike is 2.25 miles each way and easy/moderate. If you wish to drive further, check out more info via kauaisurfreport.com.

*While you are driving up to Loop Road, be sure to check out the famous Coco Palms Resort--These are the very coco palms that inspired our best-selling print!!!

Kauaʻi Hindu Monastery
107 Kaholalele Rd, Kapaʻa, HI 96746
Go between 9 and noon
Nestled among the tropical landscape of Wailua River lies an Indian oasis. The monastery is a peaceful and beautiful way to start your day! Be sure to check the dress code ahead of time.

The Wailua River
This is the longest navigable river in Hawaii. Take ‘Smith’s Boat Tour’ up to the fern grotto or do a kayak rental and you can stop off there on your way up. The kayak is fantastic, and you can hike to secret falls at the end!
